Can you believe I forgot to show you another basic stamp masking techniques, this time with the Happiest Day stamp set? You are going to love this simple technique, and you probably already have the supplies needed to create it.   If you need a visual on this there is sort of a step-by-step stamp masking tutorial in the annual catalog on page 124-125.  This was my inspiration for today’s card.  I was in charge of showcasing the different masking techniques at my team meeting in August, so I showed all the different techniques from those 2 pages and then a few of my own.  For some reason, this card slipped through the cracks, and I forgot to show you.

This card uses the brayer to create the 3-tone effect in the center of my card front.  But before I get into that let’s talk about how I achieved the white boarder around my brayered section.   If you saw my previous post about the different ways to do basic stamp masking techniques, then you probably already know how I achieved this look.   I could have die cut a piece of cardstock using a rectangle die and brayered through the center, but in this case, I used the Masking paper, cut it into strips, and attached my strips all the way around the outside edge of a piece of Basic White cardstock.

NOTE:  The masking paper is very sticky, so I place it to my forearm a couple of times before adhering it to the basic white cardstock, this cuts the stickiness down and you have less chance of ripping your cardstock.

Once you have created your simple masks around the outside edge of your cardstock you can now use the brayer to color in the center portion.  For my center I used the Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, and Cajun Craze inks.  Using a brayer takes practice and clearly, I need the practice, but you can see how you can get that variegated look with the brayer and the inks.

Once you have achieved your desired results you can remove the outside masking strips, and you end up with a variegated square in the center of your card front.  From there you can use any stamp set that you might have that has a solid image or you can use a two-step stamp like I did.  For my card I chose the Happiest Day stamp set and stamped it using Black Memento ink.  It is like the sample in the catalog but different.

I consider my card to be a Fall card as it reminds me of Fall with the pumpkin pie, crushed curry, and cajun craze colors.  Just by changing up your color scheme you can create a card for any occasion or time of the year.  What colors will you choose?  Will you make your card a Fall card or do you have some other occasion or season you are creating right now?

I should also note, if you do not own a brayer you can do the same technique with the blending brushes, or use the ink pads directly to your cardstock.  If you have those little stamping spots those work great to achieve this look as well.
