I’m continuing with my simple masking hacks for stampers techniques this week. For today’s card I used a couple different basic stamp masking techniques that I’m sure you are going to love. Maybe you have even tried these techniques before, and this will be a refresher for you.

If you are following along with my masking techniques than you might be able to tell the two different techniques, I used on this card.  If you look in the annual catalog on pages 124 and 125 it might help.  This month in my team meeting I featured the different masking techniques shown on these pages and offered a few of my own tips and masking techniques.

Let’s take a look at this card and see if you can spot the masking hacks for stampers on this card.

For this card I brought in the Magnolia Mood bundle.  This is an online exclusive bundle, and you will not find it in any of the catalogs.  You can purchase it by clicking on it in the shopping list below in this blog post.

I started by stamping my Magnolia onto a piece of Masking Paper and then hand cut it out.  NOTE:  The masking paper is VERY Sticky, so I place the hand cut flower onto my arm and peel it off and do this again until it is not too sticky.  Trust me this stuff is super sticky if you don’t do this tip; it will rip your cardstock if you don’t.  Also, you can use the coordinating die to cut your stamped Magnolia image, the choice is yours, however, If you use the die you will have a border going all the way around the image; which I did not want so I hand cut my Magnolia flower, cutting it right on the lines.

Once you have created your mask you can then move on to stamping your card.  The first thing I did was stamp the Magnolia flower image again this time on my Basic White cardstock, sort of in the bottom left-hand corner.  I covered my stamped image with my Mask I created and then added the border strips of masking paper all around the outside edge of the Basic White cardstock.   You can make your masking strips 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″ or however wide you want them to be.

Once I had my flower image covered with my mask and the outside edges, using the blending brush I colored in the exposed area with the Fresh Freesia ink.  Blending in the ink until I got the desired color tone.  I then removed my outside masking strips and the flower image mask to reveal this pretty stamped piece.  Doesn’t it look like the flower is laying over the top of Fresh Freesia “faux cardstock”?

I really like how this all turned out and I decided to make it a birthday card and stamped my sentiment using Black Memento ink the corner of the “faux Fresh Freesia cardstock”.  I then matted this piece onto a piece of Fresh Freesia and then the card base is Basic Black.

This card is easy to create once you have your masks made and you can repeat the process and create this card in a variety of colors for a variety of occasions.  That’s just two masking hacks for stampers to use in their cardmaking, stay tuned for a few more.
