I’m going to take you step by step through these different Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Techniques:
– Stampin’ Up! Ink Refills
– Stampin’ Up! Water Painters
– Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils
– Best Watercolor paper for stamping
– Stampin’ Up! Blends

Before diving into these techniques I want to clarify that I will upload the video on these techniques this Thursday, November 10 at 8:00PM EST on my YouTube Channel, “The Stamp Camp”.   I won’t be live this week as I’m attending a Stampin’ Up! event in Texas.

First up this gorgeous red delicious apple.   For this card I used the best watercolor paper for stamping; which in my book is Stampin’ Ups paper.   This is 100 fluid watercolor paper found on page 140 in the annual catalog.   If you are heavy handed with your water like I am; then you will want this paper.   One tip I can give you on how to use watercolor paper is to make sure you get it wet with your Stampin’ Up! water painters before you begin coloring.  I will wet my stamped image in different areas and color in sections at a time; wetting the next section with water and so on.   This will help to ensure the ink you apply will stay in the area where you want it to be.

I chose to use the Ink Refills for this card with my Stampin’ Up! Water Painters.   I created an ink palette on my clear block and went from there.

One thing to keep in mind with all your watercoloring techniques is that every card you create will look different; it all depends on how much color you put on and where you put it.   Also, when using water on your cards you will want to make sure you use Stazon ink.  The Black Memento may bleed when you apply water to your stamped image.

The stamp set that I used for this sample was the Apple Harvest stamp set from the mini catalog.

Easy Watercoloring Ideas – With Heat Embossing

For this card I used the Thick Basic White cardstock; this holds up to water pretty well and gives you a smoother stamping surface.   With this card I embossed it using Versamark ink and black embossing powder.   If you are a beginner to watercoloring like I am then you may find this technique a bit easier to stay in the lines with your color.

The technique that I used to color in this image was to ink up my clear blocks directly from the ink pads and picking up the ink from the blocks using my Stampin’ Up! water painters.  You can get the two-toned effects from just one ink color by adding water to the clear blocks.

The stamp set/bundle that I used for this card is the Blessings of Home Bundle.  It is hard to see in the photo, but I embossed the Basic White background with the Quatrefoil Tile embossing folder.  Those gorgeous sparkling dots are the Iridescent Rhinestone basic jewels.

Easy Watercoloring Ideas – With Stampin’ Up! Blends

Now you may not consider using the Stampin’ Up! Blends as watercoloring but it is a different technique for coloring in your line art images.   I find the Blends to be a much quicker way to color in your images than the other methods I’m showing you here today.   The Blends seem to me to be more forgiving and easier to apply exactly where you want to lay on your color or colors.

For this sample I used the Thick Basic White cardstock and the image was stamped using the Black Memento ink pad; which is the recommended ink to use with the Stampin’ Blends.  Using this ink pad will ensure that you do not get any bleeding from your stamped image.

The stamp set that I used is the Cottage Rose stamp set which does come in a bundle if you wish to have the coordinating dies and save 10%.  The die that I used for the sentiment is from the All That dies; which I will share the technique on how I got the matted background in the video.

Easy Watercoloring Ideas – Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils

My final card for today features the Stampin’ Up! watercolor pencils.  These are really easy to use and there are 2 different assortments to choose from.  You can find them on page126 in the annual catalog.  I must admit I’ve had them for a long time now and never used them.  I’m not going to make that mistake again.  Besides the Stampin’ Blends the Watercolor pencils are now my new favorite way to color in line art images.  The pencils are so smooth and blend beautifully with the Blender pens.

The paper that I used for this sample is the Shimmery White cardstock; this holds up to water well and the blender pens as well.  Sometimes with the Basic White cardstock you will get little pills of paper coming up from rubbing and adding water; you won’t get that easily with the Shimmery White cardstock.  The Thick Basic White is much more forgiving than the regular Basic White cardstock.  I also chose to use the Stazon ink as well for this card to prevent bleeding when using the Blender pens.  You could use the water painters with the pencils but I like the Blender Pens.

The stamp set that I used on this card is the Fresh Cut Flowers and the sentiment is from the Peaceful Moments stamp set.
