Today’s sketch is super simple, and you might be wondering, “Why even call this a sketch?” Well, that’s the beauty of it! A sketch is meant to be a starting point—a blank canvas for your creativity.

As you’ll see in my samples, this one simple sketch can transform into many different versions just by changing up the colors, Designer Series Paper, or even the type of fold you use. My hope is that as you look through each card, you’ll not only see the possibilities but also start to imagine your own take on this design.

Let me walk you through each sample so you can see how a simple idea turns into a collection of unique and beautiful cards.

For this first card, the base measurements are the standard 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″. The next layer measures 4″ x 5 1/4″, and I ran it through the Damask Embossing Folder to add a beautiful textured background.

The focal point mat is cut to 2 3/4″ x 4″, with the stamped layer measuring 2 1/2″ x 3 3/4″. Instead of Basic White cardstock, I stamped directly onto a piece of the Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper, which adds a lovely soft pattern behind the image.

For the focal point, I used the Prairie Grass stamp set (an online exclusive) and paired it with a sentiment from the Beautiful Motif stamp set. The sentiment banner was die-cut with the Stylish Shapes Dies, giving it a crisp and polished finish.

For this second card, the measurements are pretty much the same as the first: a standard card base, but this time 4 1/4″ X 11″ scored at 5 1/2″  with the next layer at 4″ x 5 1/4″. Instead of using Basic Beige cardstock for the first layer, I chose a piece of the Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper and ran it through the embossing folder just like the first card. The embossed DSP adds such a lovely touch of texture!

I stamped the sentiment directly onto the card front rather than using a die-cut banner, keeping the design clean and simple. To finish it off, I added three Pressed Flower Motifs in the upper right-hand corner for just the right amount of detail and balance.

For the third card, I switched things up and featured the Wildflower Birthday Specialty Designer Series Paper along with some of the coordinating die cuts that come in the paper pack. The card base is cut to the standard 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ in Blueberry Bushel, with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ layer of the Wildflower DSP on top.

The center focal point is a Blueberry Bushel mat (2 3/4″ x 4 1/4″), layered with Basic White (2 1/2″ x 4″). I added the birthday cake die cut from the paper pack, popping it up with dimensionals for extra depth. To dress it up a little more, I tucked in a small flower die cut on the cake itself.

The sentiment comes from the Beautiful Motifs stamp set, and once again, I used the Stylish Shapes Dies for a crisp sentiment banner. To finish off the design, I added a few Peach Pie Party Dots for just the right touch of sparkle and color.

These beginner-friendly stamping designs can’t get much easier than that!

For the fourth card, I went with one of the Beautiful Gallery scenic prints. This design became a quick and easy stamping projects by pairing the print with the Textured Notes Dies. The technique I used here is called the Double Time Technique, which gives your card a unique layered look without adding extra bulk.

The card base is 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″. I die cut the Beautiful Gallery print with two framelits from the Textured Notes Dies, then matted each die-cut piece with Cloud Cover cardstock to give them a crisp, finished edge. The larger piece was attached directly to the card front, while the center focal point was popped up with dimensionals for added depth.

The sentiment is from the Beautiful Motifs stamp set, die cut with the Stylish Shapes banner die for a crisp finish. To complete the card, I added a few Pressed Flower Motifs, which tied everything together with a subtle touch of elegance.

Now that you’ve seen all my different versions of this same sketch—ranging from clean and simple to stepped-up with techniques and die cuts—are you starting to think outside the box?
