Today’s card sketch is perfect for beginner card stamping ideas made easy with card sketches. If you ever feel stuck staring at your supplies, card sketches are a great way to jump-start your creativity without overthinking the design.

This week marks Week #38 of my Weekly Card Sketches, and I’m confident you’ll love how versatile today’s sketch is. You can keep it simple with basic layers and stamping, or take it up a notch with a few extra cuts and some scoring to create a beautiful fun fold card. The same sketch—two completely different looks!

One of the things I love most about using creative card sketches is how flexible they are. Change up the cardstock colors, swap out designer series paper, or rotate the sketch for a fresh look. It’s an easy way to stretch your supplies and build confidence, especially if you’re new to card making.

Card #1

Let’s begin with Card #1. For all of the cards I created using this week’s sketch, I used the Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper along with the coordinating products. This paper pack is perfect for beginner card stamping ideas because it does so much of the work for you—beautiful colors, patterns, and effortless coordination.

For every card in today’s post, I also used the Branching Out Dies to create the center focal mats. These dies are a great staple because they add interest to your card without needing a lot of extra embellishing.

Card Measurements

  • Card Base:
    Mossy Meadow – 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″

  • Inside & Layering Pieces:
    Very Vanilla (2 pieces) – 4″ x 5 1/4″

  • Designer Series Paper (Front):
    Brushed with Beauty DSP – 2″ x 2″, cut on the diagonal

  • Center Focal Piece Brushed with Beauty
    Die cut using the Branching Out Dies – 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″

  • Mat for Focal Piece:
    Mossy Meadow – die cut from a piece measuring 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″

Inside of the Card

For the inside, I added one of the Very Vanilla pieces and finished it off with a coordinating strip of Brushed with Beauty DSP measuring 1″ x 4″ along the bottom. This simple detail ties the front of the card to the inside and keeps everything cohesive without adding bulk.

This card is a perfect example of how creative card sketches make card making easy—simple layers, coordinated papers, and a focal point that really stands out. Up next, I’ll show you how just by changing up the direction of the card will completely transform this same sketch for Card #2.

Card #2

For Card #2, I simply changed the direction of the card. This is a great example of how rotating a card sketch can instantly give you a whole new look without changing the layout or measurements. It’s an easy trick that works especially well for beginner card stamping ideas.

The sketch is exactly the same as Card #1—just turned—and you can see how different it feels by switching up the orientation and cardstock color.

Card Measurements

  • Card Base:
    Early Espresso – 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″

  • Inside & Layering Pieces:
    Very Vanilla (2 pieces) – 4″ x 5 1/4″

  • Designer Series Paper (Front):
    Brushed with Beauty DSP – 2″ x 2″, cut on the diagonal

  • Center Focal Piece Brushed with Beauty:
    Die cut using the Branching Out Dies – 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″

  • Mat for Focal Piece:
    Early Espresso – die cut from a piece measuring 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″

Card Details

The “Just Because” sentiment on the front was die cut using the coordinating Words of Beauty Bundle, and the flower die cut was created with the Petals of Beauty Bundle. These elements add just the right amount of detail while still keeping the card clean and beginner-friendly.

Inside of the Card

For the inside, I added one of the Very Vanilla pieces and finished it with a coordinating strip of Brushed with Beauty DSP measuring 1″ x 4″. This small touch pulls the entire design together and makes the card feel complete.

By simply changing the orientation of the sketch, you can see how creative card sketches help you get more mileage out of one design. Next up, I’ll share another variation using this same sketch to show just how versatile it really is.

Card #3 – Fun Fold Card

Card #3 is where the fun fold begins! This card features two openings, making it a fun surprise for the recipient while still being very doable using the same creative card sketch.

The base of this card stays compact, but the inner card opens up to reveal the fun fold design. It’s a great example of how you can take a simple sketch and, with just a bit of scoring, turn it into something extra special.

Card Base & Inner Card Measurements

  • Card Base:
    Early Espresso – 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″

  • Inner Card Piece:
    Very Vanilla – 4″ x 10 1/2″, scored at 5 1/4″

You will also need additional Very Vanilla cardstock for die cutting the sentiment banner, the Branching Out inside piece, and the flowers.

Designer Series Paper Measurements

  • Brushed with Beauty DSP (2 pieces) – 3″ x 4″, scored at 1″ and folded to create the point

  • Brushed with Beauty DSP – 3 3/4″ x 5″

  • Brushed with Beauty DSP (Inside strip) – 1″ x 4″

Center Focal Piece

  • Focal Layer:
    Die cut using the Brushed with Beauty DSP and the Branching Out Dies – 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″

  • Mat:
    Early Espresso – die cut from a piece measuring 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″

Here is the first opening of the fun fold card, where you can really see how the Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper was folded to create the point. I did not add adhesive to this folded-down section, allowing it to open freely, but you can certainly add adhesive if you prefer it to stay in place.

This opening also features the Very Vanilla Branching Out die-cut piece, along with the flowers that I stamped and die cut, then adhered to this panel. This area makes a perfect spot for additional detail, and you could easily stamp another sentiment here if you’d like to add a personal message or greeting.

This is one of those simple details that really shows how fun folds can add interest while still keeping the card easy to create.

When the card is fully open, you’ll see the inside where I stamped a sentiment, added another die cut flower, and finished it off with the coordinating Brushed with Beauty DSP strip across the bottom. This simple layout keeps the inside clean while still tying in the design from the front of the card.

There’s also plenty of room to stamp or handwrite a personal message, making this fun fold card just as practical as it is pretty.

This fun fold is still very beginner-friendly and shows how versatile card sketches can be. With the same basic design and coordinating products, you can easily step up your card by adding movement and interest without making it complicated.
