Welcome to Week #44 in my Weekly Card Sketch Series!   This week’s layout is all about keeping things simple and letting your paper do the work. If you love creating beautiful cards without a lot of stamping, you’re going to love my beginner-friendly card sketch ideas using designer series paper.

For today’s cards, I’m featuring the Floral Charm 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper along with the Beautiful Gallery 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper pack.  What I love most about this week’s sketch is how versatile it is. It works beautifully with scenic prints where you want to highlight a larger focal image. But it’s also perfect if you have paper scraps laying around your craft room. Simply mix and match coordinating prints, layer them according to the sketch, and you’ll have a stunning card that looks thoughtfully designed — even though it came together quickly.

This layout is truly ideal for beginners because:

• It takes the guesswork out of placement

• It works with almost any designer paper collection

• It allows the paper to be the star

• And it’s forgiving when mixing patterns

Let’s take a closer look at how this week’s sketch comes together and how you can recreate it using your own designer series paper stash.

Card #1 follows my beginner-friendly card sketch ideas perfectly and really shows you how everything is laid out according to this week’s design.

For this card, I used the Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper and kept the main print on the top portion of the card. For the bottom strip, I simply flipped the paper over and used the coordinating backside. This gives you contrast while still keeping everything cohesive — one of my favorite tricks when working with designer paper.

The card base is Very Vanilla cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″.

The Mossy Meadow layer measures 3 3/4″ x 5″.

The designer paper strips, starting from the left-hand corner across, measure:

• 1 1/8″ x 3 3/4″

• 2 1/4″ x 3 3/4″

• Bottom strip: 1″ x 3 1/2″

I wanted to keep all of those lines visible, so I kept embellishing to a minimum. All I did was add a sentiment across the bottom strip and pop it up using dimensionals for a little added depth.

The sentiment and coordinating punch are from the Banner Sayings Bundle, which makes finishing off a card like this quick and easy.

Card #2 features the Floral Charm Designer Series Paper and gives this sketch a completely different look just by changing the colors and focal point.

This time my card base is Night of Navy, cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″. The mat underneath the paper strips is Basic White, which really helps those floral prints pop against the darker base.

I kept the paper strip sizes the same as Card #1 so you can see how consistent measurements make this layout easy to repeat again and again with different paper collections.

The Charming Day stamp set is already gone, but the Charming Day dies are still available on the Last Chance list. I did not use the dies on this card. Instead, I hand cut a flower image directly from the designer series paper. This is another great beginner-friendly tip — if your paper has large images, simply fussy cut them and use them as your focal point.

For the sentiment, I used the Stylish Shapes dies to create the banner piece. I added a few gems for just a little sparkle, and the card was complete.

You’ll also notice I changed the position of the sentiment banner on this one. Instead of placing it across the bottom strip, I moved it up higher and centered it on the card front. This shows you that even though we’re following a sketch, you can still adjust elements to fit your style and preference.

Card #3 also uses the Floral Charm Designer Series Paper, but this time I pulled out Blackberry Bliss for the card base. I selected prints from the pack that highlighted both the pinks and Blackberry Bliss tones in the paper, giving this card a rich, coordinated look.

Once again, I hand-cut an image from the paper pack and added it to my sentiment banner for a focal point. I also moved the sentiment banner to a new position on the card front.

This card is a great example of how simply repositioning your sentiment piece can completely change the overall look and feel of the card — even when you’re using the same sketch and paper collection. It’s a small adjustment that makes a big impact, and it’s perfect for beginners who want to experiment without feeling overwhelmed.
